Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to play with some of the world's best pipe bands - the Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band - and also some great folk and world music outfits, including with Julia Boutros at her renowned 2018 show in Tyre, Lebanon, viewed by hundreds of millions on MTV. As a producer, arranger and composer, I have also featured on a recent soundtrack for a Netflix show that will air later in 2026.

Martin Shields Photography

I have been working in the media business since 1988 after leaving The Glasgow College of Building & Printing where I studied photography for six years… yes, I did enjoy the college experience.

After a short stint freelancing I started as a staff photographer with the Evening Times on April Fools’ Day on 1991. I think they were telling me something. These days I work for myself covering a wide range of business, public relations, arts, film and TV assignments. For the TV, film and theatre work I use an Aqua Tech Sound blimp so that the sound of my shutter cannot be heard by the cameras or the audience.

Until recently I worked with a superb photographic team working on The Herald, The Sunday Herald and the Evening Times as well as The Herald & Sunday Herald Magazines. Working on these titles gave me an incredible variety of assignments, everything from the World Cup in France 98 to shooting fashion on Miami Beach. I still have a very good relationship with the titles, more than occasionally contributing to their editorial pages.
